The American Meteor Society said on its website
that it had received more than 350 reports of a fireball over the East
Coast. The reports came from 15 states, Washington, D.C., and Canada,
the society said.
An unexpected sight apparently greeted drivers and others with clear views of the night sky in New Jersey and elsewhere.
A meteor that streaked across the sky is being reported by Twitter
users in New Jersey, and in other spots along the Eastern seaboard.
